Default VTEC Engaging..too soon?

As I was rolling from a turn I was still in 3rd gear at around 10 mph when I decided to floor it, and to my surprise the RPMs began climbing like it was in 2nd gear. I didn't think too much if it until later on when I was on 6th gear at around 40 mph, I floored it again and once more, the RPMs began to climb as if I was in 4th gear or lower..

I knew it was a problem because:
a) this is the 1st time it's ever happened to me and
b) I felt a lack of power even when it was at 7000 rpms when that happened.
c) I smelt something like burnt tuna after it happened

So I'm wondering if I toasted something from today's casual driving. I asked my friend who works on Hondas and he told me it's because my clutch is going bad (I need to replace the master) and it affects the timing chain or something like that.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

How the hell you know how 'burned' tuna smells?

Sounds like your clutch is slipping. Definitely has nothing to do with your timing chain.

Sounds like a slipping clutch to me.

What year and how many miles? Clutch hydraulics release the clutch. It's secured by heavy springs, the master/slave cylinders only release so they're not the problem. The clutch plates are.

On a serious note, beyond the slipping clutch that the guys mentioned above; it could also be bad sparkies as well..

How many miles do you have on the car? Initial thoughts lead to a slipping clutch as mentioned by others but you may also want to check your clutch fluid level as well as for leaking from the clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder.

This should have no affect on your timing chain or anything else.

2005 and around 40600 miles. Have to replace the cylinders because it sticks hard when I turn on the car. Then when I'm by WOT it sticks hard again.

Seems like I might have to replace a whole lot more than the master than

Drive car in third, good speed. Downshift into 2rd, drop clutch. Does the engine rev's shoot up before you start feeling the power being applied to the wheels?

If so, bad clutch disc. Burnt or worn out. Clutch job in order.

That is most definitely a bad clutch. I have never smelled "burnt tuna", but have smelled cat piss.
