it's a soft limiter. has it been damp or raning the times you hit it? i run into this problem during a heavy rain or long periods of rain.

no its been dry whenever iv tried it, we did have snow a couple weeks back but the car was parked up in the garage then and never came out until it dried up

Check Coolant sensor
Engine have 3 sensor 1 for fan 1 for gauge cluster and 1 for ecu
Vtec Will note engage if temp is to low
You can have bad connection to the ecu temp sensor

That's what happened to me, 3rd was a charm. Hate it when that happens because its confusing as f@#k. Risk with other used parts though.
