Default vtec problems?

I have a 2000 S2000 with 115k miles (long work commute).

A month ago when I would attempt to floor it, I noticed the car would struggle around 6000 rpm. Struggle...meaning it studders and doesn't accelerate like it has for years, and it seemed vtec didn't work.

After searching these fine forums, I did the following:

1.) Fuel Injector Cleaner
2.) New Spark Plugs
3.) Oil Change
4.) New Air Filter

I looked into a new fuel filter, but after reading, I found out we have a "fuel sock" and supposedly lasts the life of the car.

I also looked into a new timing belt. I was then educated and found out we have a timing chain that is supposed to last the life of the engine. Which I found ironic because if the timing chain goes out, so does the engine. So in essence it technically would last the life of the engine. Anyway...

A few of the basics everyone suggests.

Yes, my oil level is fine.
Yes, my oil pressure is fine.
Yes, the engine is warm and has 3 bars.
No, my engine light is not on.

So after all of these things I've had done and had checked, I can't seem to figure out what the issue is. The car still studders around 6000rpm. It then slowly accelerates a little beyond to around 7k, however I stop at that point because I don't want anything to break.

Suggestions, tips, and comments are greatly appreciated.

You can take the vtec solenoid off of the head, when you do clean the screen really well with oil...

I had the same issue with my03 at about 26K miles. According to the dealership they tested the vtec switch and screen (I dont know what the screen is) which apparently came back as good. Then they called the vtec support line, who instructed them to replace the map sensor. Which they did and after that it has worked fine. I can probably dig up my old invoice or call the dealer if this doesnt help you.

Ding, ding, ding. Also, check out Honda's new securing system for the MAP.

It's almost impossible for the VTEC to not work and not have a P1259 stored and a CEL on.

A valve adjustment may be in order also if nothing else works to fix your dilema especially if there's 115K on the ODO. Mine a while back had the same exact symptoms and it fixed the VTEC issues that nothing else would.
