Okay my buddies 2000 S is have vtec problems..It seems like it is kicking in but not like it should be..I drove it and got on it and it seem to climb speed the same from a stop to 9k..While trying to tach it out at about 8k it seems like the car is ganna blow up it is struggling to get to 9k..This is every gear..Any ideas??
Check the oil level, make sure its not low.
Mine was acting up a few months back so I pulled the v-tech assembly off the motor pulled it all apart cleaned it up and went to Honda a got all new orings and put it back together, that fixed my problem.
You could see when I took it all apart that oil pressure was being lost between the orings. The original orings had gotten brittle and shrank up from age and the heat.

Oops I spelled it v-tech too, thats what happens when your trying to do work and type at the same time.
To answer your question the V-TEC assembly is on the passengers side front corner of the head just below the valvecover.
