well if there is a problem with the vtec the car will not come on, when i installed my new motor i forgot plug it up and the motor would not turn over. So if there was a problem with it it would throw the CEL.

I applied more fuel pressure and the vtec kicks in 1st and 2nd gear....not so much in later gears......it does feel faster than before the fuel regulator mod....I figure once I get the V-AFC II I will be able to dial it in at optimal pressure, vtec execution points etc...

Interesting, I left mine disconnected once after an oil change and drove the car 10 miles and didn't know it. Of course the first time I hit VTEC it fell on it's face and gave me the CEL, but other than that it ran fine.

Maybe the difference is I only had the VTEC solenoid unplugged, maybe yours had the VTEC sensor unplugged too?

BTW, if the car pulls to 9000, VTEC is working. If VTEC does not engage, then the engine will bog down above 7000rpm, kinda like it's losing power. You should also get a CEL light if VTEC does not engage.

W/o VTEC, the engine cannot consume as much air per unit time than with VTEC. We've all seen the HP chart and how the HP drops off after 8300rpm, this is because the engine has reached its fuel/air intake limit. VTEC's job (and reason for existance) is to increase the amount of fuel/air the engine can consume. Without VTEC, that HP drop-off point will be considerably lower in RPM than 8300, and should be blatantly obvious.
