Here's a link showing the PCX filter made by Toyo Roki. It is showing metal endcaps.

As far as the PureOne filter: This is a well designed filter, however I've seen a study that shows this filter as having lower filtering efficiency than other brands. In other words, it lets through more particulates, however it likely allows for a higher oil flow rate.

Purolator makes a fine filter - the regular Purolators are used by Ford as Motorcraft.

The Pure One has a synthetic media and has quality internals. I have used it on my regular cars. I have concerns about its ability to flow at the level needed by the S2000.

Still, the story remains the same: regardless of construction details, you want a filter IMO that has the important design parameters nailed: flow rate, oil pressure rate, and when the bypass opens. Aftermarket leaves those questions "grey" at best.

By the way, look at the Fram for Honda filter (the middle one). Look how many more pleats it has, for much more filtering area, and to ensure that as the filter accumulates firt, it will still have adequate open area to prevent the bypass from opeing for a substantial time during the change interval.

I thought it was the other way around.

Hera are pictures of the 15400-PCX-004 filter from the previously mentioned website:

Well, that settles it for me - the internals look great. Lights out - game over.

BTW, the size and shape of the holes makes a difference. An 8-hole system provides >30% more flow capacity than a 4-hole.

There could be a bad ending to the story for the poor sap who uses Honda filters constructed by Fram who runs 7500 mile OCIs. The PCX filter looks solid. But I would keep my eye on the construction in the future. You never know what cost saving measures auto manufacturers might make...even beloved Honda.

My car came stock with the Toyo Roki part #15400-PR3. No one has mentioned anything about this particular part #. It looks differen't from Fram on the inside. I think it has the metal bypass valve, I can see a spring on the inside.

I'm not quite sure how these filters work, and I did not know about the differences in the bypass valves untill I stumbled upon this thread. I will stay away from the Fram filters from now on.

Can anyone give me the heads up on the Toyo Roki 15400-PR3? It seems like a good filter but just want some opinions.

Thanks RACER
