Just got back from the dealership. Informed them about the potential slag found in these filters (mainly the ones with the 18XXXX batch number) and they showed me the last two they had in stock which have the number 171024. I decided to pick one up for scientific purposes and to possibly replace the 180125 I have installed right now.

Here is what the inside looks like. I'm not noticing any teardrop slag like in OP's filters but I'm not 100% certain either. Does it look safe to install?

Also, like OP said, it seems these six digit batch numbers could be the date of manufacture, so the one I have currently installed would be Jan 18, 2025, the one I just picked up would be Oct 17, 2024. So maybe go by the month or year of manufacture instead of the first two digits? Just not sure when the BXXXX filters were made though.

ISO 8601 Standard for dates is Year Month Day so the 171024 code would be 2017-Oct-24 but none of these B-markings including the one on the old dark blue filter make date-sense. October 2017 may predate the new filter.

At least this is a fun game!

I have seen shavings from threads sitting inside filters manufacturing, i have seen slag just like what we have here on these filters, i have seen tin particles sitting on the bottom, i have seen anti drainback valve pieces cut and or pieces sitting in the fiilter. When you have something mass produced in quantity's like this things do happen and that's to be expected. We are all very anal about our cars i get that and we all want perfection but we dont live in a perfect world and we know that. When it comes down to the PCX filter is the best filter out there for out car but now that some have noticed these little things out there what you can do is just check them remove anything you can if you see something inside it and what i have done before is you can even take some low pressure shop air and try to blow out anything else that may be in there that you cant see.
Cool. You probably know of Lake Speed, Jr. and Driven Racing oil?
