Got a pair of "306" oil filters from a dealership. No loose metal pieces that I could find.

Has anyone else used the Amsoil EA15K20 Oil Filter? $16.45 at the moment.

I've been running Amsoil in my AP1 ever since the break-in mileage that Amsoil suggests, and I typically use their oil filters.

The story as I understand it is that lots of manufacturers wanted to blame synthetic oil for engine failures, so Amsoil has a guarantee: If you use their synthetic oil, along with their recommended oil filter and air filter combination, and you are denied warranty coverage for an engine failure blamed on their oil, then they will cover your warranty (you better check their literature to be sure they still offer this warranty). Not that any S2000 is still under warranty, but I mention this because it's the only reason I ever used anything but Honda OEM.

On the Amsoil web site, you can enter your vehicle make, model, year, and engine, and they'll list the oil filters they sell for use with their oil. The Amsoil criteria for oil filters is that they have to remove the smallest possible particles without restricting the oil flow (don't wanna starve your engine). Besides the Amsoil Oil Filter listed above, they also list a cheaper WIX Oil Filter 51334 for $10.26

I haven't really paid close attention to the filter, but after reading this thread I will certainly be taking a look before my next oil change!

Using any other filter is fine, so long as you safety wire it.

The only tangible benefit of the stock filter is its unique gasket retaining design allowing it to be torqued down to a spec well beyond worlds strongest man hand tight.

Only reason for that is to prevent it spinning loose. Our engines not only have high oil pressure, but high oil flow. vtec requires a lot of oil to operate, as does 9k rpm. Combined with vibes of 9k rpm, our engines much more prone to spinning filter loose than others.

A safety wire kit prevents this even better than torquing down stock filter.

So if you like another filter, use it. And safety wire it.

Thanks.

Any pointers to a safety wire kit? I imagine it would be a bad idea to drill a hole in the filter and run a wire through it ;-)
I searched the forum subjects for "safety wire kit" but didn't find anything yet.
