weird / strange noise
For a while now I've been getting a strange noise coming from the car, sort of like a wild west train whistle like this: whistle sound
It starts off at a lower pitch but gets higher as I rev. It happens between idle and 3 - 3.5k revs. Happens in every gear and in neutral. Once over 3.5k revs, theres no sound at all. At first I thought it could be all the auxillary pulleys so I changed them (including crank) except for the alternator pulley. The serpentine belt is new as that was the first thing I changed. Odds are it might be the alternator pulley but heres the deal:
i also have an ACT clutch with a 6 puck plate and a fidanza flywheel. Coult it also be the thrust bearing on its way out due to the high gripping force from the clutch? The car is NA and has had the motor rebuilt in the last year (car only been used 6 months in the year) and has Darton sleeves new pistons/conrods etc. When I pull away in first gear, i get a chirping sound if I take it easy, whereas if I pull away after revving to around 3k, I don't get the chirp.
Has anyone got any idea what else the noise could be? At my wits end now.

well my friend just recently had an s2k go into the shop. he had a mid to high pitch noise coming from what he thought was the rear. 2 weeks later turns out that act clutch he bought was the culprit. due to the excessive force act uses for their clutches, its building a reputation on destroying s2000 transmissions. i highly suggest u take it apart and check. also try and c where the noise is coming from. becareful. Does it sound anything like the whistle @ :06 in this video? If so, it is nothing to worry about

Yep it does sound a bit like that, it's just continuous and bloody annoying!
I've actually been thinking it could be the clutch and am looking to change anyway due to all the frights with 'crank walk'.
thanks for the replies guys

I can make mine whistle almost constantly... if I keep the right throttle\rpm ratio. In my case it is just the intake whistling. I have also had a clutch that made a similar noise on a CRX after upgrading the clutch... it has been awhile but I am pretty sure that it only whistled while slipping the clutch.
