Default What can be done to fix the grinding S2000 transmissions?

I was thinking of buying another MY2000. But the trany was so shitty on my last one. At high rpms it would grind semi often. I hated it. Is there any fix that can be done to correct the problem? I have only heard of the griding problem in MY 2000 and 2001, do the MY2002 and 2003 have this problem as well?
Thanks for your help
Jim

Mine shifts just fine. When the gearbox is cold, it does not exactly slice through every gear like butter, but when the gearbox is warm, it shifts quite nicely. I have never grinded a gear on my car (yet) knock on wood. I make it a point to push the clutch pedal ALL the way down as far as it will go and concentrate on being as smooth as possible. This is not a racecar we are talkin about. I have been driving for a very long time. It seems that I don't have to concentrate as much with all my experience but to be perfectly honest with you, my MY 03 with the 6 speed transmission takes a hell of a lot more concentration to shift smoothly than a civic or Del Sol with a 5 speed.

If you want to purchase a new S2K, go for it. The MY 04 has a improved the tranny over the previous MY's. It will slice through the gears like butter.

I personally like my MY 03

Try bleeding the clutch and make sure you press the clutch pedal all the way down. If that don't work, then yer screwed, the syncros are out of adjustment.

My '01 has never had a grinding problem...

Make sure what ever you buy has had the tranny serviced.

Assuming the clutch was all the way in, the grinding problems can come from poor rev matching on a fast shift, the syncro's didn't have enough time to do their job and match the speed of the gears. However if the syncros were worn, or tranny fluid was low/wrong fluid, the syncros wouldn't be working as fast as they are supposed to(or at all). I think redline makes a manual transmission fluid that is more viscus than the stock fluid, and this should make the syncros work even faster.

I don't think the synchros get "adjusted," they get replaced. And to do this work, the tranny has to be taken apart. In fact, problems with the tranny can only be addressed by tearing it down. My 2001 had a 1-2 grind and other problems, and it was recently rebuilt under warranty. All is well now.
