no, its just a rubber than keeps it from swaying too much., kinda like a bumpstop.
right, but these are still somehow connected to the frame...if they werent, the sway bar would be useless.

that statement isn't true.

i think you are thinking of how strut bars work...which is to reinforce the chassis rigidity.

sway bars do not reinforce chassis rigidity...they provide momentum to transfer from inner wheel to the outer wheel, thereby reducing chassis sway.

The anti roll bar (or sway bar as it is also refurred to) is bolted to the frame, or subframe in this case.

#7 in the pic is called the STABILIZER HOLDER BUSHING, #2 in the pic is called the FR. STABILIZER BRACKET. This is where the bracket fastens the anti-roll bar to the sub frame.

stop collars that keep the bar from sliding sideways in the bushing #7
This is partially true. Being that both ends of the anti-roll bar are firmly attatched to the knuckels, they can't really move side to side very much. The stop collars are pretty much there as a means of fixing the anti-roll bar to the sub frame of the car's chassis.

A pic of the front anti-roll bar.

Notice the extra part #8, the STABILIZER HOLD BRACKET. The anti-roll bar attatches to the bracket, (#8) and the bracket bolts to the sub frame.

Would you like to remove the collars from my gendron bar and see how much the bar can slide in the brackets?

I'm sure it would move side to side a bit, but if the collars were unbolted, the bloody anti-roll bar would be 100% useless

If the collars where not there the end links would hit the front shocks.

The bracket that holds the bar the the chassis is a separate part, as is the bushing the bracket bolts over. The collars are on the outside of the bushing.

Correct.

That's pretty obvious in the pic.
