My car is an 09 and it has done this pretty much since new. I had the dealer put in a new dipstick and that solved the problem for about a month, then it started doing it again. I think the dipstick may be designed to do this because it still has a little resistance to being pulled out in the "raised" position that it pops up to. Not really sure but I don't worry about it.

Too much oil will do this as well. Don't fill above the high mark on the dipstick. I don't understand the mechanics of the phenomenon but can tell you many owners have fixed it by reducing the level. As you probably know the dipstick reads different from driver vs. Passenger side. Make sure the stick it below max no matter where viewed and it may resolve your issue.

I think this is terrible advice. You aren't going to blow your engine from your dipstick popping out, but you (especially early ap1 owners) could quite easily blow the engine not running at full or slightly above full (if you are going to drive spirited).

Mine has popped out once or twice. The engine uses no noticeable oil.

My car has 65,000 miles and uses VERY little oil. I didn't think it was excess blowby because the engine seems to be in such good shape. I am gonna throw my guess out there and say the o-rings on the dipstick are very low quality and shrink or wear from checking the oil often or something of the sort. And since a user above said a new dip-stick fixed the problem for a month, that only adds to my theory.

"it fixed the problem for about a month" is NOT a solution. Its a bandaid, and a rather shortlived one at that.

This happens every session at the track. You just learn to live with it, as it never comes out completely, and doesn't cause any issues.

This is an old problem - put a bend in the dipstick about 4-6 inches from the top and it will sit tight.

Very cool idea!

I've had this issue on my old AP1, and I've noticed it a few times on my current 06. I replaced the PCV valve at about 40k miles, and seemed to help a little bit. And like someone mentioned above, make sure the o-rings are clean and dry. I've noticed that to help a lot.
