Default what to set my valve clearance at.

Im doing my valve adjustment tomorrow and in my service manual it says to set my valve clearance between (intake side: .008-.010in.) and (exhaust side: .010-.011in.)

My question is: Should i set the clearance to the lowest or the highest or in the middle?

thanks

If you are willing to check them every 1-2 years go on the tighter end of the spec. for the best performance. If you don't check them for like 5+years then go middle of the spec. , they tend to tighten up over time. I run them on the tighter end of the spec but I plan on checking them regularly.

I do .008 and .010, I believe to be the best setting.

thanks for the replies i am planning on checking them at least every 20k so i guess ill go on the tighter side.
whats the worst thing that can happen from them getting too tight overtime? i ask because my car is creeping on 100 k and im pretty sure has never had a valve adjustment. Previous owners didnt care for the car much. and i know nothing of the maintanance history.

too tight will get you some nice burnt valves and will require the head pulled, valves replaced and ciets to be replaced/recut. Best to be a tiny bit loose than a tiny bit tight.

My . 008 & .010 have held for 100k miles. Made one adjustment from .009 to .008 in all those miles.

Be sure you are proficient with feeler gauges with these settings. As stated, tight valves will burn.

..007 gauge should float in and out of the intake size with no drag at all.

Same with a .009 on the exhaust side.

.008 and .010 will in no way be too tight, the valves will have plenty of seat time at those settings.
