except that when you use autronic or the motec as a full standalone your dash doesnt work. been there done that. so you have to piggy back (sortof) off of the stock ecu to be able to use the stock dash, otherwise you have very expensive dash options to choose from.
Totally agreed! I forgot about that issue. In any car that we have ran a Motec system we have not utilized anything but aftermarket guages. Thank you for the correction, and that is what makes the AEM stand alone such an attractive stand alone, as it utilizes a stand alone system for engine operation, but for all of the dash duties, and electronical functions outside of the engine it handles with OEM precision.

If anyone is planning on running a Motec system, I think that is crazy overkill for anything that I have seen on this forum thus far. We ran a motec system on a 900+ WHP integra for the major reason of the huge amount of inputs and information that we were able to extract. Technology has came along way since that project was completed, and I would feel just as confident as using AEM as my top engine management choice as of right now, for the user interface, and ability to run all non-engine functions with one ECU gives AEM a leg over the competition.

In any case if you know what you are doing you should be able to use a piggy back system in most situations with outstanding results. I would highly suggest DTEC as the user interface and adjustment points are far greater than what you would see from the run of the mill APEXi systems (VAFC, SAFC) at this point. I have had my fair share of run ins with the SAFC and for someone just jumping on the piggy back bandwagon it does take a learning curve to get use to. DTEC along with the wideband air fuel meter allows you to datalog and compare AFR vs RPM vs BOOST rather than having a stand alone wideband and air/fuel controller, where you will need to remember at what RPM you went lean and also remember how much boost you were at during the certain RPM period. Guessing is not always the best way of tuning, and that is why I like the DTEC system, and how you are able to graph and physicially see at what RPM you were at and compare the boost level and air fuel ratio.

100% agree with you. I had this ecu on my RX7 and it was simple, worked excellent, and had the hand held commander unit that was very convenient.

1800$ Kpro is comingout.... and for sure-- the best most hands on, user friendly system to use... Can tune ANYTHING and do ANYTHING--- should be coming out soon --- its used on pretty much ALL rsx's with no discussion if u should use anything else its either Kpro or nothing.... do some research over @ clubrsx.com

I know this is a little old but everything on the factory dash (at least AP1) can be controlled by the motec (m800 at least)

what sucks about the motec is that there is no base map so you need to start from scratch. so tuning=big $$
