Thumbs up whats wrong with my car?

started my car up one morning and at a stop light it died at idle. then I noticed after that it was really boggy at idle. so i check the spark plugs and i noticed the first 3 coil packs were wet with oil. so i pulled off the valve cover and replaced the spark plug seals, and got new spark plugs as well.

car ran smooth for about a week and then the car started to bog at idle like before.
i checked the coil packs and there wet again with oil.

whats causing this?

Mine did this (no bogging though) after the plugs seals were not fully pressed against the valve cover. You might want to recheck them and also look for any seal damage damage.

hmmm yeah it was a pain getting those seals to seat correctly. but at the same time its strange because my number 4 cylinder coil pack is still fine with no traces of oil

check the torque on your spark plugs as they may be loose, if they are fine then it is the seals, if the seals aren't installed properly they will tear.

Why don't you run the engine in the garage and just stare at the coils for a few minutes to see where the oil comes from.

Side note: Something similar happened in my BMW, valve cover gasket leaked on just one cylinder. The oil cooked the coil pack which in turn fried, and then fried the ecu. Cost 1400...

Yeah if he doesn't get the issue fixed it will fry the coils too, but it likely won't hurt the ecu on this vehicle. We've seen spark plugs blow apart, I'm not sure if that was caused by oil seepage or loose plugs backing themselves out, but either way it isn't pretty.

You may have installed the seals to far into the valve cover. This is an easy mistake to make and will cause the seals to sit high. The lip will not go over the tube.

when i installed the seals i had to force the lip over the tube while installing the valve cover. im going to pull the valve cover off tomorrow and check if the seals are the problem

Yes you will need to do that sometimes with new seals.

You should be able to see any lips that are not past the tube just by looking.

Definitely the seals. There's no other way for oil to get there.
