When do you change the timing chain?
I'm just wondering around what mileage do you have to replace the timing chain on the s2000. I used the search engine in "under the hood" forum but all I came up was other timing chain issues. Do you change the chain when it starts to fail and make noises? Regular belts usually change around 100,000kms. I am wondering because my shop says I might have to do the timing chain within the next 20,000kms. Right now my car is at 86,000kms (Canadian). I am also boosted, so if and when I have to change the timing chain I will change other components also ie. pistons, headgasket, etc.
Timing chain is not likely to need replacing anytime soon. You may need to replace the timing chain tensioner every 50k miles or so. You will know when the TCT need replacing...the car will sound like a desiel when idling.
Well mine has 108k miles on it asked Honda dealer when i should change it and they said "we don't change them" sounds like crazy talk to me. I know the chain is good but... I'm getting some TCT noise so changing that. But my ass is nipping a bit when i'm giving it some to 9k.
Hey ho. Has anyone ever had a chain go on them i normal running????

A timing chain is not like a timing belt, and timing chains are normally only replaced during a major engine overhaul. That's why Honda dealers don't replace them.
The TCT is another matter, and apparently needs fairly frequent replacement on some S2000's. I've heard of S2000 timing chains being ruined due to incorrect installation of a new TCT, but haven't heard of any timing chain failures without other associated failures.
