hondaf1, I have read before from 1 guy that after 25% TPS it is in open loop regardless of map or rpm & after 5000rpm it is regardless of tps & map. So I am pretty sure there is some set #'s where it's always open loop. I need some others to confirm these #'s. Once I hook up my innovate 02 I will be able to help confirm I just think others must have already tested this.

sqtb, thats not really a very helpful post. I'm sure there are already people on the forum with scan tools who checked this already.
i can tell you that last night while i was driving around trying to calibrate my speedo, i was in second gear trying to hold at 7k-8k rpm on very light throttle and i'm pretty sure the my wideband was showing stoich, which means it was in close loop.

Sorry, I was just trying to say that it would tell you what you want. Every car has its quirks, and many things affect the changeover.

I have found that open loop transition conditions that the (AP2) Stock ECU looks for is
Approx 80% TPS area
+
Manifold pressures are in the -20kPa to -10kPa range or greater.

Thanks Castro, & yeah I remember meeting you at the meet.

mugen, wow 80% seems pretty high. I would think it would be lower 79% is a lot of throttle to still be running a stoich AFR. In my RX7 it went into open loop much lower around 30% TPS (that was turbo though). You could be right as I haven't checked it out myself.

When I get my EU or AFC I will test this out also.

The AP1s go into open loop a lot sooner then the AP2.

80% is what I was seeing with my own AP2 before I installed the supercharger.

You could see it transition on the wideband and on the OBD scanner

you also gotta remember that in boosted applications most of the time it wants to change modes once it sees boost. I installed a supercharger on my other car that had only a MAF. It led me to install a URD external MAP sensor which once it saw more than .5psi of boost, it would intercept both afr sensor signals and force the ECU to go open loop. Perhaps your rx7 was the same way?

you should also ask in the F/I section as they may know the stock ecu parameters

there is really no magical number. open loop is determine by load which is calculated from RPM, VAC and Throttle. if you have a wideband, you can see when open loop is activated. i would say it's usually between 15%-20%, but don't take my word for it.
i agree. Check the A/F's under varying loads, TP, RPM and speed. You should get a good idea of what the stock ECU is doing after a few days of testing

Yeah, I will definatly do my own testing once I get a piggy back and my innovate wideband 02 hooked up. I just thought I'd get a head start & get others info on the subject to confirm my findings once I test.

Thanks guys,
Ed
