This is why you want a 30 weight oil.

My car still runs. And only burned 1/4 quart in the last 2.5K miles!
I believe it's called Castrol Syntec now.

ive spent the last few hours reading forum after forum on this castrol 0w30 and it appears it is actually closer to a 40 weight than a 30 weight which is the opposite this thread is recommending....its also rebranded by MINI as their own oil. which makes sense as they recommend Mobil 0w40 euro formula so it must be closer to a 40weight
its also a "true" synthetic as the other non german Castrol Syntec oils are not
i got 6 quarts of it so i will use it vs the amsoil i was gonna switch over to as it is cheaper/easier to find and shows equal/beats it in UOA's

I've tried looking for this Elusive "German Castrol" 0w-30 and still haven't found any in the local stores here (San Antonio, TX). I see the Castrol Edge 0w-30 in the black container but it says "Made in USA".

I ran the GC 0W30 in my APR Stage 2+ 2008 Audi A3. It met the 502 spec and a lot on this forum had sung its praises. The A3 2.0T motor is known for oil consumption - however, my A3 consumed the GC at twice the rate as the factory Castrol (FSX Pro if I remember right). The other thing I noticed is my HP fuel pump cam follower seemed to wear faster than with the OEM oil. I stopped using it (obviously), and I still have some left over on the shelf as I had stocked up on it before I eventually sold the car. I'm planning using it in my project Civic VX (stock engine), but based on the experience in my A3 - I wouldn't consider it for my S2000.

I want to keep using the Amsoil 5w-30 that I've been using the past 3 changes but they've hiked up their prices so much it is unrealistic to get even with the Preferred Customer discounts. I don't understand why it would consume twice as much as others in your Audi. A 30 grade oil is a 30 grade oil. The 0w only means it acts like a 10 grade oil at lower temperatures. I'm going to give it a shot in the S2000 and see how it compares to Amsoil (especially after a UOA from BlackStone from both).
