No but I just did now. One of the first things we do on a medical call is ask for any "pertinent past medical history". Over the internet, it is hard to determine if ALL pertinent past history has been disclosed. I do NOT wish to say anything that migh be construed as any sort of accusation. For a valve train part to be tossed through the valve cover like that, an inherent weakness in those parts had to have been evident OR, there is past history that has not been disclosed for obvious reasons. If all was previously well, those parts are supposed to be able to survive well past the rev limiter. So, the question still exists: Was there a defect in the materials and workmanship that went into that valve train OR was there a history of one or more slight mechanical over-revs in those 50,000 miles that did not manifest itself till the most recent redline blast? As this is a tragic time for the owner, I shall leave it at that.

oh i didnt expect you to say either way, its hard to get a feel over the net for someone elses car, and especially someone you dont know in the event that they arent telling the whole story. I was just wondering if that seemed like a definite over-rev or if it was possible that there was a defect but like you said it could be either or, or both...... thanks

thx for vouching for me dude
i am the owner of the car in the other thread
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=152750

well like i said in my post , to answer xvipers question re past history : bought the car new 5/00, serviced every 5000km by the dealer, car is bone stock except whiteline cross brace, never been to track, been to drag strip once, been to motokhana once and was fastest for my class of car . odometer reading about 60500km when this happened
tsb performed on car include the spark plugs, and noisy clutch both at about the 40000km service mark. always check oil level. vtec only after 5-10mins of warm up driving (where i live the temp varies from about 11deg C-41degC)

i would say i drive the car as honda meant the car to be driven in a performance manner ie not reckless nor thrashing the sh!t out of it like i stole it.

in anycase will open rocker cover tomorrow i hope... and will post pics and maybe video of what i find under there

THIS is part of the history that might be pertinent. I have checked 3 other S2000's in Calgary immediately after the spark plug recall was done because the owners did not trust the dealer tech's skills or knowledge. On every car I checked, each spark plug was installed with different torques ranging from the "old" 13 ft/lbs to as high as 40 ft/lbs (on the same car). 13 would still not have been enough even with the new crush washer and 40 may have been too much and the resultant engine vibration may have played havoc with this. I strongly suggest that when you pull the valve cover off, have each plug inspected very carefully, beginning with a visual and then taking a recording of what the torque is. Don't forget to document the gap of each. Also note the color of the ceramic part as well as the pattern of the coloration. Note the color and condition of the tip as well as the color and condition of the coil pack shaft. These may tell you lots of what went on. Digital pics wouldn't be a bad idea, in case you need some back up later.
