Lightbulb Xenon doesn't work anymore...

Last week my left headlight didn't work anymore.

Checked the fuses, all were ok.
I looked at the xenon bulb and it seemed broke, becaus in the middel there was a little brownish spot .
I ordered a new one at Honda (125 euro!!! ) but it also had the brownisch spot! But i could see a little wire running behind it, the wire isn't visible in the old bulb so I though everything was ok.
Mounted the bulb, tested it... doesn't work.
Checked the fuses, all ok.
All the other lights in my headlight work (turning signal, the bulb below it and the high beems(? sorry, don't know all these terms in english)), only the normal light (xenon) doesn't work anymore.
What is the best thing to do?
I'm afraid my balast is broke, but i don't know how i can test this.
Anybody has some experience on this?
I think tomorrow I will mount the balast from the left side on the right side and test it again. If it works, then i have a broken balast.....?
Or can i check something else?
All help is welcome...
thx
Dries

if fuse checks out , bulb is new , i would say ballast for sure , unless the wire leading to ballast is bad, but since a bulb has burned out ( you said wire on bulb is gone) then i would definitly say ballast , theres nothing else to check .

You can test if it's the ballast by taking the one off the known good side and putting it on the other side. Then you can confirm before you go out and buy a new ballast. You could have tested the bulb in the same way.

I see headlights with ballasts attached on ebay frequently.
