I just used your DIY Oil change guide and I must say, it was great! Took me through step by step and I had no problems the whole way through (a first for me and car work heh).
Now I am getting ready to change my tranny and diff fluid within the next couple of days. My question is, in that little nipple + hose setup you made for the oil containers: Where did you get the nipple cap and what size hose is it?
Or if anyone else can answer, it is also appreciated
I got the nipple cap off of a Mobil 1 diff fluid bottle:
This also fits perfectly on most tranny fluid bottles, especially the Honda MTF bottles. I just rinse out the cap and tubing with methyl hydrate when changing to a different fluid.
Note that I use a band clamp to hold the tubing onto the cap. The fluid is just so slippery that eventually, the tubing pops off. The clamp trick does a fine job.
The tubing is a "Tygon" type with an inner diameter of about 8mm (3/10th of an inch) but you can go a little bigger. It just depends on where you want to cut the nipple cap. Try a wine making store. A length of about 18" to 2 feet works pretty well.
what is methyl hydrate, and where can I get it
thank you.
Methy hydrate = methanol = methyl alcohol
You should be able to find it at Home Depot or hobby stores or even autoparts stores. You can also use varsol to rinse out the old fluid. You don't need much. A pint bottle would last you a year or two for this purpose.
