More commonly called "doorbell" wire. It's two thin insulated wires that are "twinned" (stuck) together. One wire will have a red stripe so you can use it for HOT, the other for ground. It's just handy so you don't have to keep track of which wire you hooked what up to. It is also a non-stranded (single) wire so it's very stiff and much easier to thread through things. But a thin double stranded wire will do the trick. It does not have to be very thick as there is little current going through it.

When I'm asked to do a quicky "How To", I don't have time to think all this stuff through. (I didn't even know this thread was here till Stratocaster PM'd me about it.) I just assume everybody knows what I'm talking about. Whereas, in my other "How To's", I write assuming people who read them need to know all the details. So I apologize for leaving things out.

I would urge people installing the Yellow Box to stay away from the ECU, as xviper suggested. It's just unecessary work and risk. It's much easier to tap into the leads coming right off the sensor on the side of the transmission case and the put the YB in the cup holder or even under the console cover (it's set and forget, after all).

This is exactly why I love this board. You guys ROCK!! This is an important thread for future reference. We need to make sure no one else has this problem!!

I will reinstall mine by the transmission, like xviper suggests. I hope when the ECU wire gets soldered back together it will work like before, meaning NO CEL light. Thanks to all.

xviper,

Could you edit your 4.44 install post to include the above info for future reference? That would be a tremendous help. I couldn't find any decent pics when we did the yellow box install. That pic/info would have been a big help.

Thanks for all that you've done for fellow members... to you.

Well ........................ OK. I've added it to the end of my initial write-up at the beginning of that thread. Oh, I've included a few more details in that edit.

I disagree with the above statement. I wired mine by the ECU and it works great. No need to get under the car.

Considering how many of us got CELs after wiring it to the ECU, I think it would be prudent to do it the other way. Somehow, you are one of the lucky ones.
