Default Yet another Idle issue....

Hey everyone,

I must have read every thread on idle issues on this forum, but nothing seem to exactly match my condition:

1) Cold start in the morning: Idle goes to 2K, drops to 1K, then back to 2K within a second or two...drops to normal idle after fully warming up.
2) Warm idle doesn't seem consistent, there's a slight surge every second or so and the exhaust makes a low booming sound that seem to match the surges.
2.5) When fully warmed up, the surges seem to disappear, but after driving down the street and stopped at the stop light, the surge/boom returns.
3) NO CEL!! No pending codes.
4) New MAP, new IAC, new Plugs, new fuel cap (because I noticed a strong gas odor from fuel filler).

Car runs "normal". I don't detect any power loss, but I stopped driving it.

2001/83.5K miles.

Number 1 happens to me on real cold mornings. From what I read it seems like it happens to a lot of people. Not sure about your other issues though.

Just an update...I did purchase a new IAC and initially it did not seem to help, but after a few hundred miles the car has stopped exhibiting this issue -- feels fantastic like it did 83K miles ago..and I did clean the old one.

BTW, the search on this site completely sucks. I couldn't find my own tread; had to go to my profile to find this thread!

Oh...no such thing as "cold" mornings where I live, thanks for the input, BTW.

have you properly reset the ecu? by pulling the fuse? if not thats what i would do.

and a tip is when you turn it back on, hold the rpm's at 3 untill your warmed up.

Just don't hold the RPM's at 3 for too long or you will set the EPS light on and may have to reset codes on it!

Have you clean the throttle body and intake air filter? I would reset the ECU after a nice long drive (30 minutes) to warm the car up. Then start the car and let it idle for a few minutes and drive it around to let the ECU relearn. I reflash my ECU with flashpro after doing this and the car feels a lot smoother at idle and while in neutral.
