Default zipper under the hood

can someone let me know what the zipper under the hood flap around the plastic rear window is for?
fresh air?
easy rear window replacement?
or just so I can ask a silly question?
Cheers

fresh air?
No!

easy rear window replacement?
Sort of. Although replacing the rear window is not simple or easy, it is necessary to use this zipper in the process. That is to say, don't expect to just unzip it and put a new window in. It's far more complicated than this.

or just so I can ask a silly question?
Maybe!

In fact, that zipper is not meant for the owner to use at all during normal car ownership.
Be careful how much of the zipper you expose. The thing that covers it ("patch" as Honda calls it), is a one time use only. If you play with it too much, it may no longer do its job. When replacing the rear window, a new patch must be put on.

I'm going to guess that the zipper is not water tight. The patch is probably another layer over the zipper to keep water from getting through (like when washing the car).
