2018 Baseball Play-offs
Close ups clearly show his glove being closed by the hands of the fans as the ball hits it. I don't believe that was intentional, but it was the result of the fans reaching out for the ball.
Well, it's on to the World Series of Baseball. I'm guessing that the lack of participation in this thread has something to do with the remaining teams and not so much people's disinterest in the sport.
Go Sox! I am admittedly not a sports fan. Baseball is like watching grass grow. I went to bed without thinking of the result of this most important game. I should be ashamed to call myself a New Englander.
However, I'm pleased for the Sox and the fans and will be watching bits and pieces of the World Series games.

Congrats to the Sox and to the New England fans!
Lainey, sometimes watching the grass is more fun.
Poks2k Jim, where are you? Help me out! Boston fans are such arrogant bastards!
I hate the Bosox and also the friggin' Pats! Still the Sox dominated the season and -- it's fun to watch Cutie Pie Brady throw the ball. LOL
sic transit gloria mundi
Hahaha

Oh, maybe that was only here in Cincinnati.
As for the fan interference call, I can't figure out why the commentators are so sure that the call was wrong. It is fair to question it, but I don't see how they "know" the fans' hands were outside the field of play. I see at least four things in the slow motion replays that tell me the fans were reaching beyond the wall. First, Mookie's body was not in contact with the wall. Second, Mookies arm was not bending far back, it was mostly stretching up to reach the ball. Third, the fans' lower bodies were up against the wall. Fourth, their upper bodies were leaning forward, towards the field. Fifth, the fans were reaching out towards the field trying to get the ball. So how could fans up against the wall, leaning forward and reaching out be entirely outside the field of play? And how could a player who is not in contact with the wall and reaching almost straight up be in the fan area? Plus, watch the reaction of the fan that is two or three people to the right of the play. He sees what his fellow fans do and he reaches for his head with an "oh-no" expression on his face.
It was reviewed and determined to be fan interference. You can second guess forever, that's baseball. It may have made a difference but who knows. The Sox are the better team and I think would have won anyway.
That kind of call, if questionable, is a bad call. And it is impossible to know what effect the call would have had on the outcome of the game and the series. As to which team is CLEARLY the best team, it is interesting that the Red Sox won only three out out the seven regular season games that the two teams played. Even so, I have to agree that the Red Sox were playing better in the playoff series. But the players should be allowed to determine the outcome of the game - not the umps. IMO
