9 year old girl accidentally kills shooting range instructor
#12
A friend of mine who is an instructor had this to say:
Exactly.
We don't know the credentials of the dead guy, but we absolutely know that he was unaware of the shooter's capabilities.
I have no problem with a 9yo girl firing that Uzi, once she knows what to expect.
No 3-round burst setting? Fine. Load 3 rounds. Fire full-auto. Ask her if she liked it. If so, then load 5. Then 10. Let her get to know what to expect from a full magazine.
It wasn't the gun or the type of gun or even the ammo.
It wasn't the shooter.
It was the guy who flipped the happy switch without being positive that the shooter could handle it.

IMHO, the only reason that a nine year old should be exposed to such a weapon (in this case the Uzi) is to demonstrate to a child how destructive weapons can be and therefore how dangerous they are, and why children should NEVER touch them.
It is my opinion that the "so called" adults involved in this should be held accountable. Would they let their nine year old drive?

I am pro gun and grew up with proper firearm training and was a hunter for many years. Why in the world does anyone- even a shooting range need an Uzi? I thought fully automatic arms were not permitted by law- only semis.

I am honestly surprised that any parent would condone letting a 9 year old shoot an Uzi. It is just beyond me... I know I am from CA but my dad has a safe full of guns and I enjoyed going to the range with him as a teen but I cannot imagine that a 9 year old could be ready for a fully automatic weapon. I was pretty anxious instructing my wife to shoot my .22 rifle for the first time, and shes a grown woman!

Anyone who is not otherwise prohibited from owning firearms can own a full-auto. It's just a matter of money & paperwork. Full-auto guns are expensive - often $10K and up.
