Oh FFS. You know what I really hate? TLAs (Three Letter Acronyms)
I have an "long time friend" (not to be confused with old friend) that used to be a technical support editor for technical manuals written to support the products that her employer built and sold. Back in the late 70's they published a new product manual that was written by an engineer on the project team that full of references to TLA's and FLA's. It was driving everyone crazy trying to figure out what he was referring too. So out of frustration, she called him. He shrugged it off and simply stated: "Three Letter Acronyms and Four Letter Acronyms."

BTW, I am with you Lainey. E-mail shorthand drives me crazy. Then again maybe that is not really a "drive", but more like a putt?.
I'm in DOD work, trust me, I know TLA's. what's even better is when the TLA's mean different things to different groups.
it's not unusual to have a TLA dictionary, on one of the programs I'm on the TLA dictionary is 40 pages long.
