Alcohol

To folks with drinking problems or family members with drinking problems, this string of jokes came to me as a form of humorous support. I have family members with serious alcohol problems. It has always struck me that part of the treatment in AA involves complete honesty and disclosure about the problem. This includes public discussion of your behavior when you were actively drinking. the stories are often hilarious and everyone at the meeting usually has a good laugh. At some point, the discussion becomes more somber of course and turns to the subject of recovery. But humor seems to be a part of the process.
In any event, I was not trying to offend anyone with a drinking problem.

At the risk of my own anonymity, I am a member and assure you no offense was taken on my part. You are absolutely correct in your perception of the idea of what goes on in a AA meeting, and it is amazing the amount of laughter that occurs at these meetings. Most, if not all, of the jokes you quoted can be found in AA literature. I have not laughed as much in my lifetime since I joined AA in 1999.
That being said, I did get a lil bit offended by Raymo's first post in this thread. I'm over that now, I realize it was tongue in cheek, and I've been taught by people much wiser than I to not be resentful or judgemental.
I apologize to you, Raymo. My first reaction was to bristle to your comment because of my own problem, and for the fact that my Mother died, and my Father is dying as a direct result of alcohol, and the rejection of rehab programs and AA.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack a thread on such a sensitive subject. Keep up the good work, GS No.2, you've come a long way (baby).
I wish I had gone to AA for the laughter part because looking back, most of the things I did during my drinking days were not funny (though I laughed my way through all of that stupid (and scary) crap) I thank God for protecting me during that crazy period of my life.

If I tell you and Lainey, I'll have to kill ya!

We've been to a few of the islands. Many of them are getting to be more and more like Florida. Pizza Hut, Subway, and even Hooters have restaurants in Aruba.
On a trip to Antigua a long time ago, we had no phone, no TV, no radio in our room. I think one night we may even have had the company of a little lizzard in our room, but Rick didn't tell me until the next morning.
It was one of the most relaxing vacations we ever had.
When we went on a taxi tour, we had goats and other animals in the middle of the road.
I doubt it's the same there now.
