I see my Primary Care doc at least once per year, but I think the old-fashioned "full annual physical" has gone out the window....as far as medical professional recommendations. My current doc goes the full route every 2 years or so, but I track the other things separately (vision, colonoscopy, blood tests re: cholesterol, etc).

I go about every two years. Since I am still sick from Bali, my regular doc should be quite surprised. He told me to lose 20 pounds and now I am down more than 40. He won't have to schedule a colonoscopy either, that is good for ten years.

Wow Lou! Still sick from that trip!

Did they finally figure out what the issue is, and how to treat you?

I've only met you once and don't see where they would want you to lose 20 pounds, and now you've lost 40??

I'm not sure if people are getting real serious old-time physicals that should take multiple visits and places or if they are doing primarily crusory exams and screenings. Regardless, I'm glad to see that so many people are partaking and health conscious. It does tell me that we as vints are not very representative of the population as a whole - but then I have always thought that. No negatives implied by the latter whatsoever.

I don't get one every year, because my health insurance doesn't cover it.

Back when I was uninsured, I got one every year, though.

I doubt many of us get the multiple day/multiple visit check up that RCRyder mentioned. I know I don't. I get the usual poking and prodding, some lab work, the mammogram, and that's about it.

The nurse prac does remember to ask if I'm up to date on other things and we schedule things if necessary.

I've never had a stress test and last EKG was a long while ago, but no cholesterol issues or family heart disease, so maybe it's not needed, or should I ask if it's needed?

Hi Lainey, yes they tell me it is an unspecified infection in the intestine and may take 1 - 2 years to go away. Meanwhile, 16 - 20 Immodium a day and some prescription pills, are the best I can do.

I can't wait for my general physical next month. The change from a 36 inch to a 32 inch waistline is pretty noticeable. Heck, I may be down to 30" by then. I have not looked up the ideal weight for 6'2", but at 164, (just realized I have lost 50 lbs. not 40) I think I would be below the obese rating.

The good news is my blood pressure has dropped low enough, he may be able to take me off the medications.

It never hurts to ask

Wow, again!

That is a very unpleasant and lasting memory of a trip to a beautiful place.
