Another terrorist attack,in Paris...

Matt, I think those kind of thoughts cross all our minds when we hear of something like this. But, thankfully that's as far as it goes for most of us. We realize in these times of instant media and instant video it seems easy for the a handful people to suddenly create FEAR to millions. Save your money. You have a greater chance of hitting a deer with your S2000 and we all know that won't happen. But, hunting season starts tomorrow in MI if you want to try.

Well, the two restaurants were drive-by shootings, so not much opportunity for individual defense. It was fortunate that there was some security at the soccer game, because at least one of the two suicide bombers there had a ticket to enter the stadium but was patted down by security and his suicide vest discovered. So he and the other bomber at that location ended up killing themselves outside. We could debate the gun issue all day long (and get this thread sent to Politics), but I don't think it would solve anything. France and other countries have very strict gun laws that did not prevent the perps from getting them illegally. Apparently, there are many weapons coming in from the former Yugoslavia. It is going to be very, very difficult to guard against these kinds of attacks.
It seems the plan was formulated abroad but carried out by French nationals (one at least - others still to be determined). Another attacker came in to the country posing as a refugee from Syria. And at least one of these attackers was already on the police radar in France. As is the case with the previous attack in January. How can you round up (physically and legally) all these suspected radicals and keep them in jail? Not possible. I hate to say just hope you are not present when one (lone wolf) or more of them decides to take action, but that is the reality we are faced with.

I admire the French for going out and showing they will not be defined by these attacks. That is my plan, too, although it's certainly easier to do it from afar.

It only goes so far, Deb. No matter how advanced, intellectual or pacifistic a society becomes, people really are not interested in being slaughtered like sheep. Candle-light vigils, rallys and going out to live your life makes us feel good, but it doesn't stop the terrorists. If a people can't count on their government to protect them, bad things happen.

ISIS will continue on this rampage until a coalition is formed with the countries who have suffered these unspeakable tragedies. One of the high ranking U.S. chiefs of Staff stated that "ISIS can be defeated with relentless full scale air attacks, Naval bombardment and special ground forces from all countries that have been terrorized." "They are not capable of withstanding this type of attack from countries that possess high levels of sophisticated weapons" Wipe them out now or continue to expect more attacks.
