I told my friend that he should buy the Lexus, the numbness, should make him feel right at home.

I think I heard on the news yesterday that there were some lexus Toyota engine recalls that just came out. Your friend may want to check into that.

I've owned an '06 and '09 IS350 and currently drive new ISF... sold the '09 and my S2k (and my soul to the devil) to buy the F car. I've read the reviews, involved myself in the heated debates/discussions with those who would march to the tune of the Fatherland and think, if it wasn't built in the shadow of the Black Forest it ain't a car, and logged a lot of seat time in Lexus and Toyota cars.

Fact is the 350's and the F car are among the finest cars I have ever owned. I am really partial to the F car. Lexus may give up a few ticks of a stopwatch on the track to the German competition but they are extremely well built, go like stink, have decent handling for cars with four doors and in the case of the three Lexus cars and the Toyotas I have owned... I was never on a first name basis with a service advisor or a tech.

They are apparently pretty safe cars as well... an armed carjacker took the '06 from my wife and rolled it into a little ball with the cops on his heels at 90 to a hundred miles per hour and walked away with a fat lip.

I would not hesitate to recommend a Lexus to anyone ( although this valve spring thing might be something to be concerned about)... thank goodness Yamaha built the heads on the F car.

PS... and evey morning when I shave, I see the dumb ass in the mirror who gave up a pristine '08 S2000 to buy the ISF... sigh... I miss it every day!

The +1 was looking last year at buying an IS but she finally picked up an SC430 instead. She loves her SC. Her previous car was an ES.

A couple years back I fell for all the pre-intro hype for the IS and delayed buying a car until I could test drive it. It didn't live up to the buildup for me.

Owned a 93, 98, 02 and now an 07 ES. Actually they have been my wife's cars. Good quality, fit and the 07 has decent acceleration. Not great handling but a quiet smooth ride and that is what she likes. They hold their value fairly well too.

Thanks everyone, good stuff, I'll pass this on to my friend.

Honestly, I would never put money out for a Toyota product now, and a Lexus is a Toyota.

Every manufacturer has had dozens of recalls over the years, even Honda. I would not hesitate to buy a Toyota product just based on the current run of recalls. I'd just take care of the recall and move on.

Of course the general numbness of almost all Toyota and Lexus products would give me pause but I'd jump at the chance to own any of the IS models were I in the market for a near-lux four-door.

My mother had a ES330. A bit too many frills, too soft and cushy and as others have mentioned too numb. To me it was a glorified Camry (with air conditioned seats).

Out of fairness, the build quality was excellent and it maintained it's value when we had to sell it because my mother could no longer drive. She loved it, but she was in her 80s and wanted different things from a car than I did. The funny thing none of the young people (her grandchildren) wanted it. They all thought of it as an old person's car.

I always thought of it to be the car that Buick should have been building.
