MsPerky, there's nothing wrong with loving a car for its looks. I've purchased a share of cars for that reason. I did manage to find the home site for Avanti Motors http://www.avantimotors.com/ . Turns out they're now located in Atlanta. Check out their website, it's quite interesting.

Hey - Nice website...that Avanti convertible is looking cool! And it has a 6-speed manual. Did someone mention the price?

Rapier
I don't remember much about them Rapier. i was a kid, but I do know a friend of my Dad kept them in a special bag in his golden hawk and he'd put them on like tire chains....and have tons of traction on the street.
I think they are very illegal now. Maybe one of the more Vintage members remembers more, I only saw them once in Chicago back a long time ago.

Since we are talking Studebaker Avanti and automotie trivia, what well known automotive personality worked for Studebaker before it went out of business? My first hint: He was directly involved in the R and D on the supercharged Avanti.

This leads to my second question: What was the first car Andy Granatelli personally put a can of STP in?
