BEWARE THE "CEL" FROM HELL (rant)
No CEL but we have an issue for the third or fourth time. High /surging idle. Some kind of idle air control valve? Emil had hooked us up with a link for a fix the first time - cleaning it out worked for a while. Then it happened again, once, if not twice, so Rick had the part replaced.
We just got ready to head out and damn if it wasn't happening again. So Rick is outside now hoping cleaning it out will work again. If not, a tow truck is in our future. Not quite how we planned to spend our Saturday afternoon.
Update: He got it cleaned out, idle is fine. Checked the paperwork, it's not been two years since he bought the replacement (not factory) part. He may be able to get a replacement for the replacement.

If you follow the honda manual, you will NEVER get to the bottom of this code...trust me. The book is wrong, right from the start.
So anyone have a P1457 that they could never fix?

There is an entire thread with this code. I went through it and did not see anything about the O rings, but I am not sure if they are associated with some of the components Billman was speaking about. Billman also has a fast check of the entire system (by the car) running through cycles that takes 6 minutes.

I’m pretty sure the gas cap is part of this system and will throw the CEL if it is not tight enough. I went through this when my car was about two years old. It turned out the thread on the cap bound up and made the cap click well before it was actually sealed. If I squeeze the cap while tightening it I can get past the binding spot and seal the system. I wonder if the o-ring was in the gas cap?
Scrool down for the start of this how-to...had some photo problems at first.
P1457 is a very common code in the S2000.
Just to start off here, if you have a P1457 IT IS NOT THE GAS CAP!
A loose or non-sealing cas cap due to warped filler neck threads will set a P1456.
