Cloudy is right, there is a setting for this mode of operation right on the knob. (Lainey's +1 pointed this out to me about two years ago.)
It's the setting with the graphic of the car, isn't it?

I live in central Georgia and right now its averaging 94. When stopped at traffic lights or slow moving traffic you bet the ac is on with the recirculation button on. Never with the windows rolled up though.

Yep. I don't use it, though. As far as I can tell, it puts out all the cold air through those little vents just above the head unit. I prefer the dash/feet combination -- gotta have that cool air on the toes! HPH

When you use the graphic of the car, it seems to come out around the periphery of the car. I haven't tested each vent yet. If the sun ever comes out in the Northeast again, I'll give it a try.

I use that setting all winter with the windows down. I have the car out no matter how cold, even in the teens and single digits. So far I've liked that setting with the heat on.

I use it with that air conditioning too. It seems to work.

For the most part, the only time I change from that setting is when I need the defroster (top up in the rain, the few times I've been caught in the rain).

Hey Bill! Call me when that happens, OK?

I'm afraid if I'm in the house doing "stuff" I'll miss the sunshine. It doesn't seem to last long around here lately.

Yes, I have had th AC on when the top is down. I have asos had the heater on and the top down. There was one day when it was 24 degrees and I had the top down. Needless to say, the heater was on as well.
