BTW, I learned that the side benefit to using the "top down" mode is that if one lays a bottle of water (beverage) between the radio door and the shifter with the A/C on it will keep your water cool in the summer weather.

Try that on Rt. 26 and you'll have a bottle of water rattling around your footwells in no time......

That is why they invented Velcro with adhesive backing! (Just kidding)

I am hoping to enjoy RT 26 more this year. As last year, was my first time on the route and Carmen asked me to follow him last year. So, I was fairly well occupied with keeping up with him on a road that I had never driven before, but he was comfortable with like an "old pair of jeans".

I hope that the winter was kind to RT 26 and that the surface is good.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Last I heard, the road is in good shape. The local Cleveland crowd just ran down it the weekend after Watkins Glen. They gave it a .

No word on how many of them ran with the A/C on. (Need to stay on topic here).

I do it all the time and think nothing of it. I'm cool and loving having the top down. IMHO, the top is only there for use in the event it rains really hard and the a/c is there to keep me cool.

I've done it, but I'm always afraid I'm causing wear and tear on the AC compressor.
The A/C compressor is lubed by the A/C refrigerant. In fact, Honda recommend that you use the A/C at least once a month. I don't use it as often as I'm supposed to, because I'm usually more interested in acceleration performance.

But yes, I've used the A/C with the top down. It's actually quite effective for keeping my legs from sweating. The evaporative cooling effect from the airflow does a good job on the upper body, but the lower body can get too hot on really hot days.

Still, if I want the most comfort I will put the top up and cool the whole interior. The top-down A/C thing is sort of a marginal trick only used occasionally. Sometimes I'll stash groceries that should stay cool in the passenger footwell and use the A/C to keep their temps reasonable even with the top down.
