You must have saved a ton of money, lol. I golf once every 5 years when people drag me out there. I just picked up a golf bag for my son today , he enjoys golfing, more than me.

I had been thinking about trading my WRX in for a new one, Sept. is usually a good time if a dealer has left over inventory they usually like to move it so they can start selling the next years model. I have been watching my dealers website and they have had 4 21's in stock for awhile now so I had received an e-mail from a saleswoman at the dealership saying they are looking for used cars so I contacted her asking her what they could do on the price of the 21's they have in stock and she said the pricing is up to date on their website but I could get way more than usual for my car. The thing that gets me is they have their 21 WRX's same options as mine priced over 6,000 more than what I paid for mine 3 years ago which I.M.O. is excessive. Looks like I'll just put a few bucks into my current WRX.

Has to be the worst time to shop new cars due to the current and future shortages. Dealers will be making big $ at both ends - selling new and selling used.

It is! Dealers are short on some inventory and some are tacking on a "Covid fee." Used cars are hard to find. The mechanic who has handled many of the repairs on that VW said to get a decent used car, prices are now in the 12K range. That's why the VW keeps getting money dumped into it. It's going to the dealer tomorrow to determine the cause of an oil leak. On the plus side, one service rep told me he's never seen one of these vehicles with a blown head gasket. Could be the cam carrier needs re-sealing. That's still a job of $1200 or so. At this point, that would be good news on this vehicle.

Yes I was thinking maybe my Subaru dealer isn't getting any 2022 models in anytime soon. They have really jacked up the prices on the new cars so they would have to REALLY give me a good price on my current car to get me to trade. Here in southern Vermont you can't find a decent used car anywhere and as far as getting a car repaired every repair shop is out at least 3 to 4 weeks.

Car talk: More on the VW.
Dealer said a common issue for an oil leak was that the cam carrier needed to be resealed. Quoted $1100-1200. I found another company on the internet with good reviews on VW repair. I thought it was worth checking out, hey, I've got time to make some calls. It's raining. I told this guy what was happening with Ally's, VW gave him the vehicle ID, #, etc. He got back to me immediately and let me know that her model VW was part of a class action suit regarding chiming chain and tensioner. Of course, too much time has passed for her to get any monetary compensation to have the fix done. He quoted $1400.00 which, from what I can gather, includes removing and re-sealing the cam carrier, replacing the timing chain, etc. Unless she wants a "brick" for a vehicle at some point, it appears this will have to be done. Not sure what the dealer will find tomorrow with the diagnostic. I doubt his quote of $1100-$1200 included a new timing chain. They would probably wait until the vehicle was torn apart to say "oh by the way.........." This is the second issue the VW has for which VW allowed additional time on the warranty. She missed the boat on the last one too!

At some point it will be time to stop tossing $ into this vehicle. I also looked at used vehicles. A 2010 Civic 93K miles was about $8K. Right about now, if she could get a few bucks for her vehicle, in the as is state, and we and her parents kick in a few $ it seems it would make sense to move on from this piece of crap.....

YEP, bite the bullet Lainey. Get a 5-year old Chevy Malibu or something along those lines.

Or spend an extra grand and get an eight year old Corolla and save several grand in repair cost over the (longer) life of the car.
