Install new windows almost ✅ 13 in 5 to go. watching this guy work is wearing me out.
might just have to order me some more windows. 12 more to go.
then it's on to the 10 skylights.
not touching the 10 basement windows.
We discussed that the kitchen eating area has a cathedral ceiling.
There is always a problem with Ice dams on it.
We may contemplate ripping out the ceiling and filling it with foam.
12 inches of closed cell foam would be R-84.
Make that problem go away.
I'm actually looking forward to getting most of these changes behind us.
knocking on wood that this will end for a while.
Of course the better half has her eye on replacing a lot of the carpets.
Well, put the order in with Anderson for 9 somewhat large side sliders, 8-10 weeks lead time. The pricing that I got on the Fibrex was in line with the series 400 windows from a local contractor, and nearly identical to Pella quote. The windows are somewhat large ~54x40.
And as of this AM 9 custom "picture" windows that reside at the top of the walls in the kitchen and dining room. The windows are in the "A" structure (we have an open beam house, so these are near the top of the structure, above the 8 ft standard walls. I have engaged a local glazier to fabricate and install. After replacing all of the exterior doors last year, I am hoping this seals up the minor leaks in my 55 year old house.
We have 2 HVAC systems. (Had) One was a 5 ton for the main living areas and a 3 1/2 ton for 3 bedrooms and a split zone upstairs (800 sq/ft) Noticed fumes and black soot on exhaust of main system. Near neighbor and longtime owner of HVAC company came and looked. Said original design and installation was faulty. Designed smaller 3 1/2 ton for previous 5 ton and added another intake duct other end of house. Works beautifully. Much better. Said other system (compressor failed) works okay for heat but could go to "ductless" system to save money and have remote control for each of the 3 bedrooms and upstairs entertainment room, the 800 foot room.
Have not performed the ductless yet as we really don't need the ac yet for all the above. Price of the new Rheem 3 1/2 ton with new ducting was $11K. As a note the remote control for the 2 zone (looks like a regular temp control in the upstairs room) was very problematic and failed numerous times until I just let it go stuck in the open position. The bedroom side of the house drives the upstairs. The ductless remote is very attractive. These are the units you see all over Asia and in Europe. Not super big over here. (Yet)
A long time ago. we replaced the front door but since it was in the winter and we wanted to use azek which is a plastic composite we couldn't do the trim at the time.
Then I got the clever Idea of putting an entry porch over the front door and it stalled since I couldn't figure out how to proceed.
I finally said F 'it and got some Azek trim and did it this weekend.
so the before... with some additional weather stripping added.
And the after. with the Azek trim installed.
Note the detail at the piedmont ends. cut beautifully at a perfect 45° angle.
I have to get some new clapboard siding but I need a real lumber yard for that.and some paint.
That might be a spring thing.
