Chevy's road to recovery?
Why pay for labor when you can charge customers for the privilege of building their own motor?

For a gearhead, that would be a great experience and give you a wonderful talking point forever on the car! You should do it Bill.
I've had my head buried under the 'bonnet' for the past couple days stripping my engine down to pull it and repair a leaking transmission seal (plus clutch, pressure plate, etc.). I sure hope I don't run into any snags since we have reservations for a big national meet in WI in just over a week!

Dave, did you update your engine with a rear oil seal, or are you still using the factory scroll system.

My issue does not relate to that, as this leak is out the cotter pin hole in the trans. I suspect the trans paper gasket is leaking (not lined up correctly, dried out, or whatever), or the inner rubber seal is bad and leaking, or something did not mate up as it should for whatever reason. Heck, I have even heard of warped like edges on a trans.
I have a spare MkII rebuilt trans ready as a backup to this 1500 trans, if needed. Even bought a new clutch for both just in case (as they use different ones). I like the 1500 as it shifts the smoother of the two.
I need to stop typing and get back to the garage, even if it will be another 90 degree day! The weather forecast here is the same for the next 10 days.... all at or near 90. I should planned better.
