Is there an e-mail client that has the automated reply feature. Outlook has this but it requires Exchange Server which I don't have.

I am looking for a piece of software that I can set to send a reply automatically when I am out of the office.

Pegasus Mail can generate automatic replies if their companion Server product, Mercury, is also installed on your system.

Both Pegasus and Mercury are free downloads... http://www.pmail.com

Pegasus Mail has been around since 1990, and has been upgraded/enhanced regularly.

I'm not sure about Thunderbird.

At work, I use regular Outlook and use the Outlook auto-reply feature (we have the Exchange server).

I do use Firefox for browsing at home use, and also use regular Outlook for email. Sue has used Eudora at home and likes it, but hasn't tried the auto-reply feature. For Eudora auto-reply to work, you have to leave your computer on at all times.

Thank you. Over the next few days I'm going to look at the programs a start to use one of them. Some of the people in the office want the auto reply feature and Outlook only enables it with exchange server.

Thanks again.

I just got new software, new computer and new monitor at my office. Now I have a nice flat screen monitor, so my home computer now needs a "mod."

I'm amazed at the stuff that is out there. I don't keep up with the tech stuff unless I need to purchase new things. It was time for the new computer at work as mine was 5 years old running windows 98.

I obviously need to keep a back up of my bookkeeping data. I used to have a built in zip drive. This time I asked for a CD/DVD burner, which works fine.

But, they also showed me a "pen drive" and I think that is the greatest thing. I'm sure you computer people have heard of these way before me.

So I bought that too. Put it on my office keyring for safe keeping, and have even used it at home to copy some pics I'd like to have on my work computer.

What will they think of next?

Resurrecting this old thread that our beloved tomcatt started way back in 2004. The +1 just got a new desktop computer - a Dell Inspiron 530 with 22" flat screen monitor and wireless keyboard and mouse. Ordered it online. Most importantly, it came with Windows XP, NOT Vista. I did not want Vista - too many problems. Plus, MS is going to come out with a new OS before long. It does have an upgrade to Vista if we choose to do that. Now have to hook it all up! His old one has been presenting the blue screen of death for awhile now. Didn't get a new printer yet.

I still have my 4.5-yr-old Sony Vaio laptop. Been thinking about a new one.

I posted over in the computer forum a month ago and have not had a single offer of help. I loaded a new version of Google Earth and it's totally screwed up. Maps have overlays and you can't see what you're looking at. I'd like to go back to the prior version till they get it all fixed but don't know how. I went to their website but you have to be a techie to figure out anything. I gave up.

Unfortunately there are still some things you have to "lay hands on" in order to solve. Hopefully that can't be outsourced.

You may want to look in "Control Panel/Add Remove Programs" to see if both versions are still there. If so you may be able to uninstall the new version and revert to the old.

There may also be a rollback option available as well. I'm not familiar with that app so that's about all I've got.

But then again I may be delirious. You don't want to know what I've been through this week.

Or, just uninstall it, and try one of these:
