Sounds like what you are talking about is basically your garden variety antisocial personality disorder. There is no reliable evidence I have ever seen that such people have been "broken" when they were young, in the sense that somehow their environment has damaged them or they failed to learn something or they developed improperly. (There are some old studies that claim they didn't get enough maternal attention when they were young, but back then that was the standard answer for everything.)

As far as I have ever seen, being a psychopath is just something you are born with. And it's not something people can be cured of, though many psychopaths learn to simulate normal behavior well enough to get by.

^^ Going to B&N to pick up a copy of that book today. Sounds like my kind of reading.

Oh, the news reports today that the wedding is off. The fiancee visited the alleged killer in jail and had a frank discussion with him. No deal on the wedding.

^ Good thinking!! The evidence against him seems pretty overwhelming, even for her.

I really feel a lot of sympathy for that poor girl. Her life has certainly changed. Everything she thought was in her future is now over. Sad.

on the flip side, she is a lot better off finding out now than in 10 or 20 years when she's married and has two kids...
