Crying

OK. We've had threads about other songs. So sound off, Roy Orbison, Don McLean (sp) or K D Lang?
I was alright,
For a while,
For a while,
I could smile.
But I saw you last night,
You held my hand so tight,
When you stopped to say hello.
Though you wished me well,
You couldn't tell,
That I'd been crying.
Beautiful lyric.
You know, I'm not sure myself. Orbison was one of the great, distinct voices of our time. Nobody should have ever gotten away with covering "Crying" but both McLean (sp?) and K D Lang made it work. Personally, I lean towards K D Lang's version, but the other two are great recordings.

In a similar vein, the song "Me and Bobby McGee" written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson was the best I heard until I heard Janis Joplin do it. Now, for me, that song will forever belong to Janis.

"Blue Bayou" - Roy or Linda Ronstadt?
It seems to me you'd have to have guts or just be nuts to cover any of his songs. It's hard to top perfection.
