The topic of Starbucks came up in that recent health care thread, but I really didn't want to get involved in that particular food fight.

But it did make me think of something, something that I could use an opinion on.

Do you suppose it says anything that, when I walk into the Starbucks here on campus, they automatically make me what I was going to order?

I feel like the guy who walks into the bar and says "the usual." Except I don't even have to say it. hph

It says you drink some kind of fru-fru coffee beverage quite often.

Edit: I thought it was hilarious when we were in NM and the barrista at the Starbucks in LA wrote my name on a cup as soon as I came in the door.

NM? LA? They know you are Starbuck's all over the country? I'm impressed!

I think it's a great business practice. It makes the customer feel important

Rick and I frequent a small Italian restaurant for many years now. When we are seated, there is a Bass Ale placed in front of him and a Diet Coke with lemon placed in front of me.

Apparently during the 17th century coffee was as exotic and controversial as tobacco. J S Bach's Coffee Cantata is about a girl whose father will not let her marry until she gives up her coffee addiction.

^^ and also offers antioxidant protection from various diseases that afflict many older folks. Coffee/Antioxident properties

I am an avid coffee lover and dread the day when some 12 yr old Doogie Howser tells me I have to give up my caffeine. I only drink espresso drinks which has much less caffeine per "dose" than regular brewed coffee, but I probably drink 7 or 8 espressos a day. I prefer a simple espresso or a fat-free latte' to any other beverage. Starbucks, however, is not my preferred choice of coffee. I like my own better than anyone elses as I personally feel Starbucks coffee is burnt to a crisp and like a nice medium roast much better. Their barristas put wayyyy too much milk in the drinks and the espresso is blah. I prefer Starbucks to nothing and will get a drink there from time to time when I'm away from home.

It's my job to go downstairs, grind the beans, and make the coffee in the mornings. Chris likes Tschibo coffee. It doesn't last very long on the shelf, so sometimes I have to search for it around town. I need the morning fix, too, but I don't normally drink coffee any other time of day -- except when motoring cross country. I agree, Val, about Starbucks, but they are so easy to find. Hey even your N
