Dealer invoice
We have been looking at new vehicles specifically SUV's and if we move forward on anything is there a website out there which lists what the dealer pays for his vehicles. I get confused with all of the specials, incentives, etc, etc and would just like to know what he pays so if we get serious I am better prepared to negotiate.
Edmunds.com is one good one, Carsdirect also is a good source. What are you looking for , I used to be in the bussiness.. The sites should show you any incentives the manufacturer might have.. There is also "holdback" usually 3%
In the past, when I decided which car(s) I was seriously interested in, I used to pay Consumer Reports (online) to get invoice price and accessory prices paid by the dealership, including the retail charge to the customer.
The last new car I bought was the 2011 Honda Crosstour and I went through Costco.com for their recommended dealership. I was set to buy from that dealer when the Glacier Blue came in. Then, I went to another dealership, just to see the Glacier Blue and their price was way lower and they had the car in stock. I hadn't planned on buying it that day but the deal was too good to walk away from. I already knew the invoice price from the first dealership.

Looking for A SUV that is capable of driving on the beach and has decent room for the grandkids and beach stuff. We are going to BMW today to look at a X3 2.8i, looked at the Jeep Grand Cherokee yesterday and my friend has a new Honda Pilot which we like. Just checking out what is out there for our needs then if we find the right vehicle we will go to work on the negotiating with the info you and others recommended. Thanks to all for your help.
It's important to keep in mind that"dealer invoice" is not the cost to dealers of vehicles. It's merely yet another piece of paper in the overall smokescreen that manufacturers and dealers use to confuse customers.
Evidence: I'm thinking about a Jeep, and there's an organization that anyone can join ($20 per year; 3-year minimum) that has an arrangement with Chrysler Corp. and many of its dealers: members (who produce appropriate documentation) automatically get 1% UNDER dealer invoice. It's obvious that neither Chrysler nor the dealers is giving away vehicles, so the real cost is below invoice somewhere.
Still, invoice information on Edmunds and elsewhere is good to have, because it puts in a better bargaining position to know it. HPH

[/quote]We were impressed with the V6 engine and the 8 speed tranny. Very responsive and the vehicle handles like a sports car. The next engine is the 300 hp version at a higher cost and we dont need either one. Much better than the Grand Cherokee and Honda Pilot we looked at. Runs on regular and the gas mileage is better. It is a SUV but for us the power is adequate.
