When I paint I always buy a quart of paint and paint a big square before I paint the whole room. I leave the spot up for about a week to see it in every light combination before I decide if I like it.

The man I work for can take weeks before he can pick the right shade. On a recent project we purchased over 100 quarts of paint before he found the right shade. I have a desk drawer full of paint charts including a complete set of Pantone samples. When asked my opinion I always reply that I like the first one best. It drives him nuts.

^That's a good way of doing it, with the spots. Lighting makes a huge difference. With carpet too. I recarpeted the house but now wish I went a little darker. It's too close to the walls.
