deer crashes
Here's a nice summary on this topic.

Having hit one and had several close calls, I even tried the whistles but I never believed that they worked - otherwise all the state police (for example) would be using them.

Over the years I've had many close calls but luckily havn't hit anything larger than an opossum. They sure can do a nasty job on a vehicle. Typicaly I'll see deer at least once a week going to/from work so I generally tend to take it easy at the break of dawn or at dusk, which seem to be the 2 worst times of the day for them.

Cars in my house have hit or been run into by deer 4 times. They now walk thru our neighborhood in the middle of the day. It was not that long ago that I remember they would be seen at dusk and run if a human were nearby. Now they walk down the street as if they don't have a care in the world.
I find it amazing that crows turn their heads, see a car and then move in plenty of time not to get hit. Deer on the other hand have actually run into our cars.
