He was a classic.

Very sad. Funny, funny man.

He was so good in "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World." Yet, later, he proclaimed to hate being in that movie the most. I wonder why?

When I was in the Navy flying out of Fallon Nevada, I went to see his show in Reno with a few fellow aviators, circa 1983. For some reason Mr Rickles picked me to go up on stag for some skits. We dug in some dialogs and when I made eye contact, I almost felt we had a meeting of the minds; I had a lot of fun and the everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, as he directed. Playing along was something I won't forget. He was kind enough to pick up my table's tab for food and drinks. Briefly met him again at the end, he shook my hand and thanked me for being in the military. It was interesting seeing him one on one without the stage persona.
Rest in peace. I will join you on the stage in the not too distant future. But not yet. Not yet.

What an great experience! Pretty cool guy, for letting you up on the stage and doing a routine. With no idea how it'll turn out.
