I'm 75 and have no issues driving. My eyesight is 20-20 with my glasses on but I do see drivers younger than me driving like they should be pulled over and older drivers who should not be on the road at all.

I have no problem with being tested again. I think that everyone should be tested every ten years. After a certain age it should be every five years. There are too many people out there that have forgot some of the general principles and rules of driving!

Only anecdotal data, but older drivers are more likely to drive in a way that is simply annoying (slow, indecisive, etc) while younger drivers are more likely to do things that are downright dangerous (distracted or aggressive driving.) But no doubt there are some seniors out there who should no longer be driving due to physiological deficiencies.

I had one Friday.
I can only speculate that she thought it was a 4-way stop whereas I had no stop sign and a right of way.
I was doing about 40 and she pulled right out in front of me from my passenger side 90° street.
I wasn't more than 80 feet from the intersection when she started moving.
Thankfully I was paying attention and the GT-S has stellar braking.
We were about 6 inches apart when I stopped.

I don't know if the car had decided to help or not as it has collision avoidance.... maybe I wasn't so good, who knows?

Pretty sure that's not the case in Nova Scotia. I think they wait till you screw up or get reported before hauling you in.

The Illinois senior driver rules are as follows: I took my road and vision tests in February for my 75th year renewal.

Up to age 75, a person may renew electronically or by mail every other renewal. The renewal process for older adults requires the following:
  • More frequent renewal. People ages 81 to 86 are required to renew their driver’s licenses every two years. People age 87 and older are required to renew their driver’s licenses every year.
  • Road testing. People age 75 and older are required to take a vision test and a road test.
  • Limited renewal options. People age 75 and older must apply in person for every renewal.

Interesting. I checked the Delaware licensing requirements on-line, and could find nothing about old age restrictions. The only thing I found was this:

Driver Services

License Renewals

Delaware driver licenses can be renewed at any Division of Motor Vehicle facility. Driver licenses will be issued for eight years, with the exception of Immigration length of stay, hazmat holders, and Driving Privilege Card holders. A $10.00 late fee is charged if the renewal takes place after the expiration date. If you have a motorcycle endorsement, the fee is increased by $12.00. If you have a taxi endorsement, the fee is increased by $3.45.

Fee Chart

You may renew at any time during the 180-day (six month) period prior to the expiration of your license. Commercial driver license (CDL) holders are eligible to renew no earlier than 30 days before the expiration date on their license. Renewal reminders are sent to each driver approximately 60 days before expiration date (driver's birthday). You must turn in your previously issued driver license, fill out an application, and pass an eye-screening test. A written and road test may be given. If you moved, you may be required to show proof of residency. You may also be asked to provide proof of social security number and/or proof of legal presence at renewal.

If you are obtaining a federally compliant driver license, please review the CHECKLIST to be sure you bring all of the required documentation for a one time revalidation. Find out more about the federally compliant driver license and identification cards.
