Ebola
Exactly. I rarely make it a practice to go around trading fluids with someone who appears to be sick. Considering the only way that ebola can be transmitted is via a fluid exchange of some kind, I doubt I'll have a problem. But some people who only watch and listen to certain programs are going to be doing the Chicken Little routine very soon.
I'm not worried, but keeping my eyes open to all possibilities. But I heard that "body fluids" includes sweat. Now I don't go around coming in contact with other peoples' body fluids, but in a crowded place, it seems possible to be bumped or touch a sweaty arm etc. That seems a likely scenario for spreading disease, IF sweat is included in the definition.
I am very concerned. If we think that stopping and checking 94% of the people that travel from the three countries chosen will stop the spread of Ebola we are wrong. First of all what about the other 6%? What about the people that travel from Africa to other countries stay for a short while and then travel to the USA? Does anyone really thing that people are going to answer the questionnaire correctly and admit that you may have contacted Ebola? You would have a better chance of surviving by lying and getting health care in the USA then anywhere in those three countries.
I don't have the answers but I think this will get real ugly before long. I pray I'm wrong!

For everyone that is afraid The Hot Zone by Richard Preston, true and it will probably scare you more. And if you think that Ebola is bad, Marburg is spreading in Sub-Saharan Africa as well.
These diseases have been an issue for many years and we have just started to notice here. If proper precautions are observed (unlike the Texas hospital that sent an infected person back into the population), these diseases have a history of being controlled.
ZMapp has shown good results and now that it is out of Africa, everyone will be working for a solution.
I am with Roseanne on this, I do not fear it, but I am concerned about poor decisions (see comment above regarding Texas hospital) and blind hysteria.
Back into my little hole.....

Some good news from Dallas: the Texas deputy admitted to the hospital yesterday does *not* have ebola

Article doesn't say what he did have though. Flu?

I guess it would depend WHERE in Africa one was going. I wouldn't have any medical fears going somewhere like Kenya, Tanzania or South Africa.
Africa is a large continent. Perhaps they are going to a part of it that is unaffected? Sort of like one could go to Key West, Florida, and feel fairly confident of being un-impacted by an issue that exists in Bellingham, Washington.

I have friends traveling to Africa on Monday. I asked them why with the Ebola situation. They said they have gotten shots. I told them they were nuts!!
If I was an international traveler, I'd have some concerns. I do hope there is some monitoring of passengers coming from affected areas, though nothing is fool proof. Also hope the hospitals have better screening processes than the one in TX that initially sent the now deceased man home, though he advised of travels.
Right now, I'm just glad I didn't experience any hysteria at the doc's office today, and get quarantined as I have a case of pink eye.
