FIOS

In my experience with Dish if there's no signal you probably shouldn't be watching TV anyway. It has to be a very severe storm and even then the longest I remember was about an hour.
The Texas town that I lived in holds/held the Guinness record for rainfall - twenty-eight inches in twenty four hours. Having grown up in Maine I know what it's like to be snowed-in, but until moving to Texas I never knew what it was like to be rained-in. Days of no TV, no radio, no Internet, no phone, and more often than not, no power which also meant no water since I was on a well. And I couldn't leave the house because the roads were flooded.
Should the world ever need an enema, that's where they'll stick the hose.
I'm thinking about switching to FIOS when my Comcast contract runs out.
Right now I have the 3-in-1 deal for two years, so for just over $200/mo I get pretty much all the channels they have, phone service, and the highest Internet speed they offer. I also have two HD boxes and a HD DVR box.
I don't even watch TV. My wife is in love with the DVR, and has been watching Anthony Bourdain non-stop for about two weeks. My daughter loves the on-demand Dora, Diego, Blues Clues, etc, which I copy to DVD for her.

I think those are all on Nick Jr. I just go to Comcast on-demand, then kids shows, then Nick Jr.
I cant get FIOS TV yet, just phone and internet so I havet pulled a switch.
I was wondering how much it would end up costing me to put it in the house.
I have the big screen in the family room, a TV in the bedroom, one in the office, and another on the 3rd floor playroom/guestroom. Plus my oldest wants a TV in her bedroom. They are all plug and play as every room has a cable drop already. I just connected them all to a splitter in the basement.
Wouldnt they need to run cable all over my house to give me the same capabilities?

Wife says we are paying about $160/month for our bundle from AT&T (BellSouth, Cingular, DSL, Direct TV). That gives us nation wide long distance service on the land line, 2 pocket phones with 550 minutes, BellSouth mid range DSL service, Direct TV has 1 DVR & 3 recievers.
With the drought in Atlanta, I don't think we have lost the satillite signal for more than 30 minutes at any one time. With the Charter Cable that we had 15 years ago, if a frog pissed in Arkansas, we lost the signal for a day or two.
Wife has a number of premium channels(Showtime, HBO, Encore, etc.), so our cost is a little higher. I think there is a promotion for the basic bundle @ $99/month. That includes Land line, pocket phone, DSL,and Direct TV.
January 2008 issue of Consumer's Reports rates Alltel the top pocket phone service where it is available. Then comes Verizon, T-Mobile, and Cingular(AT&T) at #3 or #4, depending whether Alltel is there. You may want to check what service most of your friends and family use. Cingular Has free calling between all Cingular customers.
The BellSouth DSL service has three speed levels. Our computers are too old to have a noticeable difference between the top two levels. We very rarely have loss of service.
We had Dish Network before the Direct. Service was about equal. Direct's antenna may be a little easier to aim. We take one reciever along in the RV so I have had some practice at aiming the dish and setting up reciever.
