People seem to think this storm is winding down, but it is not as far as flooding is concerned. Gonna be an issue for another week, apparently. I'm a bit concerned how Val is going to go through NC to get home. There are road closures. She said she is monitoring that to see which way to go, but it may not be easy.
Just reposting my comments from the other thread:

Deb, maybe she knows this already, but if she uses Google Maps for directions, it will route her around road closures. I just did a quick “what if,” and the recommended route is 330 miles and about 6 hours, and it is obvious it reflects the road closures via her normal route.

There are numerous closures on I-95 north of Fayetteville due to flooding.

^ Right...she plans to use various tools to get around whatever roads are closed, but I'm guessing it will be a long ride home for several reasons. It took them more than eight hours to get up there and that was before the hurricane. She said she is NEVER EVER leaving home again, no matter what happens.

She might wind up going through Arkansas but I can't imagine telling Val not to do something she has her mind set too.

I was surprised to see that the Outer Banks was spared damage. We hope to head back there next sprig. We enjoyed that area.

She is a bit stubborn...guess that is why we are such good friends.

^ Actually, the spokesperson for the NC Dept of Transportation just said avoid the state altogether. There were 1500 road closures with Matthew and they expect to exceed that with Florence. Sections of I-95 and I-40 are closed. Flooding will be in play for at least another week, so additional road closures will take place as she moves west.

Wow...that is bad. They were not kidding about detouring around NC altogether. Not sure how Val will get home. Just have to hope she has good intel on roads that are open for travel.

I know a lot of folks who live in those areas are very worried about the damage to their homes. I would be too. We have friends in Southport, N.C. that got hit hard and flooding is still going on. They evacuated and are staying put until it is safe to return. There have been deaths due to this storm because people refused to leave and others have had to be rescued by emergency personnel who put their lives on the line while trying to rescue them. Homes can be repaired or rebuilt so it is not worth putting your life in danger. My prayers are with all who have been effected by this devastating hurricane.

Well said, Ray. Glad all the Dragon Slayers had nice weather. Be careful working your way home, folks.
